Something For The Weekend – Gigs And Art

So if you’re about Dublin and don’t have much to do for the weekend there’s a couple of things on worth checking out.

Tonight I’m going to see The Presidents of the USA in Vicar St, bit of a blast from the past but should be a laugh. If you’re not sure who they are you’ll definitely recognise this song:

There’s still some tickets available here.

Also on gigwise over the weekend, Phantom First Friday is on in Andrew’s Lane Theatre tonight (have never been, and have been meaning to go along to this some month soon) and Finley Quaye is playing Whelan’s tomorrow night — another blast from the past, but something different to do on a sat night sure!

James Rizzi

Moving away from music, Gallery Number One launched an exhibition of James Rizzi’s work this Thursday. It’s running until for 3 weeks, so plenty of time to go check it out. Rizzi is an American artist who over his long career has created hundreds of paintings / illustrations, with his art even featuring on full scale buildings and even a Volkswagen Beetle! I really like his style of illustration, so definitely going to try pop in to check out the exhibition at some stage.

So if thats not enough to keep someones weekend going dunno what is! Lets hope now I’ll actually do something productive and my hangover won’t get in the way…
