If you’re one of the (probably many) people who subscribe to Coldplay’s mailing list, then you’ll have gotten a very important email this morning.
The short story is that Coldplay are giving away more free music. Why more, you ask? Because previous to their Viva La Vida release, they gave away Violet Hill as a free download, and they also gave away Death Will Never Conquer for free to celebrate the first night of their current tour.
So whats the story with the current giveaway. Well, according to the band’s website, at every live show remaining in 2009 they are going to give away a live CD, LeftRightLeftRightLeft. Quoting directly from the email “every fan attending a show will be given a free copy of the nine-track CD”. By my count that’s 42 live shows! On top of this, from 15 May the album will available as a free download from the band’s website, Coldplay.com.
According to the band, the give-away is meant as a recession-busting mark of gratitude to everyone who’s supported them: “Playing live is what we love. This album is a thank you to our fans – the people who give us a reason to do it and make it happen.”
So, fear not if you aren’t going to an upcoming gig, cause Chris Martin and the boys want to spread the love to anyone with an internet connection. I for one am going to be rocking my socks off in the Phoenix Park come 14 September. Tickets are still available here, so you can’t say you didn’t have the chance to go!
