I’ve only recently heard of this music festival for some reason, and being a Corkman, I’m a little ashamed of that fact. But now I’m a little excited about it, having seen the line-up.
Saturday 1st August:
Bavaria Stage: Ocean Colour Scene, Fight Like Apes, The Chapters, Ham Sandwich, The Stone Roses Experience, Vesta Varro, Travega, 202s.
Red Bull Village: Fish Go Deep, Ollie Cole, Carosel, The Vital Spark, The Hot Sprockets, Snowman, The Loaded Kings.
Cyprus Avenue Stage: Mundy, Messiah J & The Expert, Rarely Seen Above Ground, Heathers, Panama Kings, Pocket Promise, The Jades.
Sunday 2nd August:
Bavaria Stage: The Super Furry Animals, The Blizzards, Delorentos, Fred, Aftermath, The Rags, The Minutes.
Red Bull Village: Mo Kelly, The Kinetiks, Le Galaxie, Ian Whitty & The Exchange, Joe Echo, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Myp Ep Jeep, Reemo, Remy, Killer Chloe.
Cyprus Avenue Stage: The Frank & Walters, Director, Villagers, Dark Room Notes, Cowboy X, Setmaker, The Brilliant Things, Sickboy.
There are tons of Irish names in the line-up which is always good to see. There are a few names that I’m really excited about seeing – Messiah J, 202s and Fight Like Apes being the main ones. Of course, Fred and Ham Sandwich are always worth a look, being great live bands that I’ve already seen, and I’d go to the festival just to see them. The Chapters, Aftermath, Director and Cowboy X would also be worth a look, as I like some of their current stuff.
Indiependence Festival 2009 takes place in O’Connell Park, Michelstown, Co. Cork on the Saturday and Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend (that’s the 1st and 2nd). Tickets are a majorly recession busting €39 (1-day) and €59 (2-day). Damn that’s good value!
