Lyrical Genius

I’m way behind the curve on this one but I was given Angles the other week, the latest album from dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip (released last year). Admittedly, I’m not into hip-hop so its easy to see why this one passed me by unnoticed. But I got to listening and I was really struck by the brilliance of the lyrics. On the other hand, I’m not in love with the electronic beats, but you can’t have everything when you’re an indie head.

I was listening to the album on the bus and the first two tracks were nothing special. Then track 3 hit me and I was literally struck by the brilliance of the words I was hearing. The track was Thou Shalt Always Kill and the lyrics are true genius. Some made me smile. Others made me kind of reflective. Some made me think “Oh ya” and others “Ya, I do that”. But its all original and thought provoking stuff aimed at modern western culture. Think of it like a modern day set of commandments.

Here’s a cool animation video to go with the track, from

Thought I’d post the full set of lyrics to the wicked Thou Shalt Always Kill here – enjoy the read.
