I don’t know why I didn’t start writing about movies sooner. I’m a bit of a movie buff – I’m the guy who’ll watch a film and be able to know the actors’ names and a string of their previous films – which some people find really, really annoying, isn’t that right, Tony?
There are a bunch of films coming out in the cinema soon that I’m looking forward to and I’m gonna kick things off with Up.
Up is the newest flick from the masters of animation, Pixar, who lets face it, have rarely disappointed on the big screen – their previous films include Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
But this film will take a slightly different slant from previous ones, which is what interests me most about it. The main character is not directly lovable (although I have no doubt he will end being loved by viewers) like in previous Pixar outings (Nemo, Wall-e, etc). Up features a grumpy 78 year old man named Carl Fredricksen who decides to abandon his quaint, quiet life and travel to South America by flying his house with helium balloons. It wouldn’t be a kids film without a kid (or an animal) in it, and Up features an eager Wilderness Explorer named Russell who gets tagged along on the adventure.
The trailer shows you the usual high quality animation we have come to expect from Pixar, as well as some of the laughs we can expect to get from the film. It’s due for release in the UK and Ireland on 16th October, 2009 and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
