Christmas is upon us, and that means a barrage of fun films. Where The Wild Things Are is a best-selling children’s picture book written in the ’60s by Maurice Sendak. On 11th Dec it will hit the big screens in film directed by Spike Jonze.
Why would I be excited about a children’s book? Cause I’m mostly a big kid. The story is about Max, who likes to play in a wolf costume and is sent to bed without any dinner for making mischief. In his room, his imagination goes wild as he explores the land of the Wild Things. Director Spike Jonze (of Being John Malkovich and Jackass fame) will combine live action, costumes, animatronics and CGI to create a visually stunning film. The voice-over is provided by some pretty famous names – including James Gandolfini, Forrest Whitaker, Chris Cooper and Catherine O’Hara. Check out the first trailer for what promises to be a whole load of fun.
One thing that makes the trailer that little bit greater is the use of Arcade Fire‘s track Wake Up (one my favourites). Which brings me to another point – the film’s soundtrack. Karen O, of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame and ex-girlfriend of Spike Jonze, wrote the soundtrack. The soundtrack also features contributions from Brian Chase and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Imaad Wasif (formerly Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter & Atlas Sound), Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age & The Dead Weather) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs & The Dead Weather).
A track from the soundtrack was released a few months ago – All Is Love – and you can listen to it here. But one track is a cover of acclaimed singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston‘s Worried Shoes, and that’s what I’m going to post here. Enjoy.
