Big news hit our news desk a few days ago – The Clink favourites, Passion Pit, are going to play in the next Heineken Green Spheres gig.
The newly refurbished Savoy in Cork will host one of the music highlights of 2009, on Friday, March 12th. This is the night before they play their sold out gig in The Olympia, so if you, like me, don’t have a ticket for that, then this could be your chance to see the boys from Massachusetts play their first Irish gig of 2010.
Passion Pit have graced our shores several times before, and having seen them twice, they are a great live band. Their performance at Electric Picnic last summer was one of the festival highlights, playing in a jam packed tent. The Clink are massive fans of Passion Pit, and they have appeared many times on our pages already. Their debut album Manners was included in our Top 9 Albums of ’09, and is definitely worth a listen.
The Heineken Green Spheres is a series of gigs that have seen some great performances. Carlow played host to Marina & The Diamonds, Miike Snow and Digitalism while Dublin & Cork later hosted White Lies. The Clink was lucky enough to be at each events, and they were all great nights out. Other recent Green Spheres events featured Friendly Fires playing in Waterford and Pete Doherty playing in Galway.
All big names I think you’ll agree – and the bonus is, you can see them for free! The Green Spheres events work like a lottery, enter your name and if you win you’ll get free tickets to the event. Keep an eye on the Heineken Green Spheres website for when the draw will open, and enter for your chance to win.
